  • Well, this flight was exciting, to say the least! Luckily it was a learning experience for both me and Matt! Whenever you have an airplane medical emergency doctors do have an ethical but no legal obligation to help. After this event, I thought it might be nice to do a dedicated video to Airplane Medical Emergencies and in general what is expected of doctors and passengers. If you're game for that please let me know in the comments!

Thanks, Defranco for the shoutout! Check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/philipdefranco

If you have an idea of something you want me to cover in-depth, please let me know because I take your requests seriously. We will be back with more Doctor Reacts Series & Responding to Comments so please submit more names of shows/episodes & questions you'd like for me to watch. Love you all!

This is scary since I too suffer from anafylaxis, I carry My own epipens but still, it should be mandatory for airplans to have some onbord

I would suggest that the airlines keep the Epinephrine for cardiac arrest. You never know when that might be used also.

Maybe they should thank Delta. They're the ones that had the policy of not diverting the flight elsewhere. Or maybe thank both you AND Delta.

That is very strange that there's not an epi-pen in an ETOPS aircraft. I understand on the domestic short diversion flights, but trans-oceanic aircraft I've been on usually have one, you can see it in the overhead emergency stowage bag at least when I've flown long haul - on a transpolar route there's not a lot of opportunities for diversion, after all.

This happened to me twice. Start the IV. Dilute your bristoJet of epi by a factor of 10x then give it IV. Now you're not going to have the cardiovascular side effects or the horrid intramuscular discomfort from pushing that into his leg. [This is why Paramedics practice in the streets and Dr's hang out in the Hosptial or their Offices.] The final result was good. However, doc, you made it much harder on yourself than you had to.

Are there responsible flight worthy travelers on board,or all of them entitled weenies like this example of "would have been better soaked into the mattress". If you plan to leave mommies basement, and enter the real world, you should be tested for unrealized allergies. NOT cost other people money and time keeping your dumb ass alive long enough to vote.

I don't remember what the title of the korean drama. I only remember the scene about a doctor who lives or is assigned in a village help a grandmother who suddenly collapse when she works in the fields. The doctor helped her by doing *cric* because she looks like she has difficulty breathing. She is finally saved but unfortunatelly his son sued the doctor because what the doctor did threatened this grandmother. But in the end the doctor won because he did that because of an emergency, then because he had done the procedure correctly, and finally because it was also the son's fault that he knew that the grandmother had an allergy to some plants in the fields but the son always forced that grandmother to work in the fields. *someone please tell me what the title is* 🙏🙏🙏

Cadiac epi (1:10,000) vs allergy Epi (1:1,000). You said the cardiac is much stronger, isn't it the opposite? 1mg in 10ml vs 1mg in 1ml. Same overall dose but only 1/10 the strenght per ml. So instead of giving .3 mg in .3 ml, you would use .3 mg in 3 ml.

The cardiac is weaker per mile because it is meant to go directly into the vein vs the allergy which goes IM and has to slowly leech into the system.

But 3ml in a bolus. Damn, that is where the pain can come from. A big knot of fluid in the muscle.
