You want it as light as possible yet strong enough for the power applied and rough and tumble kid use: Why 1/2" plate for some components when 1/4 or even .187" would suffice? I admire your machining and tig skills.

Everything I own is Stihl love them to death. However my grand father has a Husqvarna saw and its just as reliable as my Stihl’s. Just bought one of those Ryobi expand it gas multi tools from Home Depot and I absolutely love that little thing too! Use the brush clearing attachment and it is not used gently either. I honestly don’t think company names matter as much as they used too. If you start them right every time and clean em up after use, you won’t have a problem with any machine. All comes down to the owner way more then the company name. Just my 2 cents! 😬👍

i think you shouldve used some pictures of go-kart designs before you did this. some real obvious stuff for people that had go-karts at some point in there life.

The wider the axle, the more problems you are going to have in turns unless you have some kind of diff setup. It'll still drive, but it will become hard to handle, since either the inside wheel will spin forward, creating oversteer, or the outside wheel will spin backward (compared to the ground), creating understeer. Most likely oversteer, since the weight is on the outside wheels, but you'll never know for sure, which could be dangerous if you plan on making something that goes a lot faster than this.

The way to offset this is to make the car longer, but that will reduce the turning response. So it's a balancing act.

You would want the smallest sprocket possible on the chainsaw and largest on the wheel to get the largest reduction. Getting the biggest on both defeats the purpose...
